CN Tower is a communications and observation tower in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Standing 553.33 meters (1,815.4 ft) high, was completed in 1976, became the world’s tallest free-standing structure and the third tallest tower in the world at that time. . It remains the tallest free standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, the signature icon of Toronto’s sky, and a symbol of Canada, attracting over two million international visitors annually. The idea originated from the CN Tower when the 1968 Canadian National Railways have a desire to build a large TV and radio communication platform to serve the Toronto area, and show the strength of Canadian industry and CN in particular. At that time, Toronto is a boom town, and the 1960s and early 1970s has seen the construction of skyscrapers in the center of many large cities, especially the First Canadian Place. CN Tower opened to the public on June 26, 1976, although the official opening date of October 1, 1976. CN Tower consists of several substructures. The main part of the tower is hexagonal hollow concrete pillar that contains six elevators, stairs, and power and pipeline connections.
