2011: TOWER

MAY 2011: Studio image of Brendan Jamsion constructing TOWER (2008-2011) A giant sugar cube installation built from over a quarter of a million sugar cubes and weighing 506 kilogrammes, jointly funded by Eastbourne's Towner Museum and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. This three year project was completed with the assistance of Jamison's Chief Fabricator Karin Bamford.
The tower measures 500 x 180 x 100 cms. The installation also comprises of a sea of loose sugar crystals spread over the gallery floor, radiating outwards from the base of the tower.
In an exhibition of contemporary British Sculpture curated by Sanna Moore, TOWER will be on dislpay at the Towner Museum, Eastbourne, England, from Friday 1 July to Saturday 17 September 2011.
From December 2011 to February 2012, TOWER will be on display at the Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, in an exhibition curated by Feargal O'Malley. The sculpture will rise upwards from gallery 2 into gallery 3.

Sugar cube sculpture models commissioned by Native Land & Grosvenor for the 2010 London Festival of Architecture at the NEO Bankside Pavilion on the Southbank, London. NEO Bankside is designed by world-renowned architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. The original bankside power station was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott. It was transfomed into Tate Modern by Herzog and DeMeuron and opened to the public in 2000.
